We are looking for two talented and energetic postdoctoral fellows to join Dr.Yan Liu’s laboratory(https://www.feinberg.northwestern.edu/faculty-profiles/az/profile.html?xid=50632)at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and Robert H.Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center,located in Chicago,IL.These positions are fully funded for multiple years.

The Liu laboratory is interested in investigating the molecular mechanisms governing normal and malignant hematopoiesis,with an emphasis on understanding hematopoietic stem cell(HSC)self-renewal and pathogenesis of myeloid malignancies,including clonal hematopoiesis of indeterminate potential(CHIP),myelodysplastic syndromes(MDS)and acute myeloid leukemia(AML).Our long-term goals are to identify novel regulators of HSC self-renewal,understand the molecular mechanisms regulating their function,and develop novel therapeutic strategies to eliminate leukemia stem cells(LSCs)and improve leukemia treatment.

One of the projects in the Liu lab is to determine the role of tumor suppressor p53 in leukemogenesis and treatment.Our studies have led to multiple recent manuscripts,including two manuscripts currently in revision(Vemula et al.,Cancer Discovery,2022;and Chen et al.,Cancer Cell,2022).

The first postdoctoral fellow will determine the impact of mutant p53 proteins on transcription,chromatin accessibility,histone modifications,and 3D chromatin structure in hematopoietic stem cells and leukemia stem cells.

The second postdoctoral fellow will develop novel therapeutic approaches,including small molecule inhibitors and CAR-T therapy,for leukemia patients with p53 mutations.

Successful candidates should be highly motivated and have a recent Ph.D.degree with a background in molecular biology,biochemistry,epigenetics,and cancer research.

Applicants should have a strong publication record,creative thinking,effective oral and written communication skills,good team spirit,and a willingness to learn new techniques and approaches.

Preference will be given to candidates with strong first-author publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals. 西北大学博士

WHO WE ARE

We utilize molecular,genetic,immunological,biochemical,and pharmacological approaches as well as unbiased genome wide studies,including RNA-seq,ChIP-seq,ATAC-seq,HiC,whole genome sequencing,CRISPR-Cas9-mediated screening in mammalian cells as well as proteomics studies,to investigate the molecular basis of HSC self-renewal and leukemogenesis.Specific relevant techniques include analysis of DNA,RNA,and proteins,flow cytometry,and experience with murine models and bone marrow samples from patients.

WHERE WE ARE

Our lab is on the fifth floor of the Robert H.Lurie Medical Research Center of Northwestern University in Chicago,IL,which is home to many of the elite biomedical researchers at Northwestern.The Lurie Center and the rest of the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is located in the heart of Chicago’s Magnificent Mile,blocks away from beautiful Lake Michigan.
